  • New and Improved Bathroom

Well I FINALLY got my bathroom {mostly} done!! What a great feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction! I was a little questionable on the color for a while, but now that I have everything pretty much the way its going to be, I think its ok. It was a little outside my comfort zone, but I like it! :)

    Before

    Before as well...

And these are the afters... can't get my pics to move down so I can write under them... anyway, I had so much fun doing the letters. Just a little acrylic paint, computer printed words and carbon paper did the job! Like I said... so much fun! I love creating things!

  • My Bailout

Last summer, when we moved into our house, our flowerbeds were FULL of bursting color! It was beautiful. All this time I've been trying to decide how I could afford to get enough flowers to fill (to the point of "just enough") my flower beds so that they looked half chite and not too empty. Yes, there are lots of perennials, but she had TONS of annuals to fill in the spaces.
And then my mind started spinning. Why couldn't I just start my own annuals this year? I COULD!!! I started going online to see about creating a cold frame. I didn't really find anything exactly like I was thinking, but in talking to Greg, he got the vision and seemed to think he could pull it off. So, with a few freebies from Grandad, we started our cold frame project! So, I'm sharing with you the process. If anyone has tried this before I would LOVE to hear your results, what worked for you and what didn't. I'm so totally just doing this, with not much plan. A local greenhouse sold me the flats and potting soil, but I didn't want to bug them too much so I didn't sit with them for hours and discuss temps, and all that technical stuff. I have a little heater that I can put in the cold frame if it happens to get too cold.

I'm also trying to do my own geranium starts. I just clipped some stems off a plant I saved from last year stuck them in a jar of water (per Grandmother) and am hoping they root for me. Some of the leaves are turning really yellow though. Anyone have any wisdom on that?
Today, I'm planning to start my Vinca and daisy's. It will be so fun to see their little green heads poke out of the dirt! I can't wait. I'm doing (as you can see above) tomatoes, a few herbs, peppers and many annuals. I think I have room for 16 flats with 42 plants per flat, so I should have an abundance of flowers for the summer! I think its so exciting!
I'll keep you posted on my little plants progresses!

  • Georgia

I just got back from an extended trip to see my newly married sis deep in South Georgia. Unfortunately it was not as warm as I hoped it would be and I had to do lots of closet raiding. I originally thought I'd go and just spend a few days helping here get all settled in and see where she lives. Then I found out Shaunna and Dennis were going about the same time I was, so I rearranged my schedule so I could be there while they were. It worked out perfect. I was arriving on a Fri, they would come Sat night late, and I would be there till the following Wed and wouldn't be able to stay for the weekend (during which they were going to have their reception) because of work on Thursday. What a perfect plan, especially since I hadn't thought I would be there at all for months to come. I couldn't have even imagined it, but it got even more perfect. We had a great almost week together, moving things from the storage area to the house, clothes from one room to another, shopping, putting up decor, cleaning floors, organizing... Then Wed came and it was time to go home. I got to the airport in Valdosta which only has 3 departures a day and they all go to Atlanta. My flight got delayed once, twice, three times (with 2 trips on the plane, only to be told to get off after everyone got settled due to bad weather in Atlanta). And finally that was enough for me. I called Melissa and said, would you please come get me, I'm gonna miss my flight anyway in Atlanta and don't wanna stay here all night. Melissa and Pat graciously agreed to come get me and then somewhere in the confusion, I realized I might just as well extend my stay since there would be no way I was going to make it home in time to work the next day anyway. It was so awesome! I couldn't believe that I was able to stay for the rest of the weekend, be there for the reception... And then glory of all glories my husband came up with a plan to come down and spend the rest of the weekend with me. I was thrilled! What a fun thing... got to miss work AND have a fun weekend with my family and husband. Then he got to fly home with me which was just an added bonus. I had never flown by myself and on the way down it kinda made me wanna cry. It just felt so lonely! Yuck! So, here a few pics from the week I was there...

Melissa's cozy living room we got to set up while I was there

This is her "green room" and she says its her favorite room! It is so cozy and such a wonderful green color!

Then we have these two love birds... I did half of their engagement pics the other night... here are just two that seem to be everyone's choice!

  • The Big Day!

The wedding day has come and gone...

It was a beautiful wedding... Much joy, a few tears. Lots of work, but all worth it to see it all come together and be just what the bride ordered! We had lots of help and people pitching in to get it all put together and then taken down again.

Maria... Annie... Lila... Shaunna... Christy... Julie... Jamie... Kara... Leighton... Mom... Carolyn... These people made the day better, easier and more fun! Thank-you all for your part in making it go good and be not quite so sad and blue. Without you, it would not have been pretty! :)

Thanks to Amberhttp://www.xanga.com/asitetobehold for the gorgeous pictures she allowed me to share with you until I find some others!

And now, Pat & Melissa are winging their way to the sunny shores of Riviera Maya. Lucky ducks!
